The Angel Heart Fund can mean the difference between life and death for sick or injured animals taken into our shelter. All of our animals receive routine vaccinations, rabies shot, heartworm test, worming and are spayed or neutered. Our adoption fee is used to offset this expense. The Angel Heart Fund allows Fuzzy Friends Rescue to pay the medical cost of injured or sick stray animals, along with the dogs that come to our shelter and test positive for heartworms.

Heartworms, if left untreated, could ultimately lead to death.

Your support of The Angel Heart Fund will make it possible for us to save the lives of many other animals in desperate need of costly medical treatment. You WILL be giving them a second chance at life that they so greatly deserve. These little lives will bring so much devotion and love into their new adoptive homes. This is such a great example of people helping animals and animals helping people.

Rescued At The Last Minute
It has a horrible beginning but has a happy ending!

Simone is a ten-year-old Cornish rex cat, a very rare breed. She was bred locally and sold to a family who raised her as a show cat. Last year she began to have severe skin problems. Her owners quit showing her and had her spayed. They tried to conquer her skin problems but were unsuccessful. As a last resort, they called the woman who had bred her. She agreed to have the cat returned to her and later surrendered Simone to Fuzzy Friends Rescue. The veterinarian who examined Simone was not sure what had caused the outbreak of sores on her back. It could have been a reaction to the injections the previous vet had given her as treatment for the skin disorder. A change in food and a weekly bath with special shampoo were prescribed. Again the Angel Heart Fund at Fuzzy Friends Rescue is to provide medical care that is above and beyond the norm. It was because of this fund that we were able to accept Simone. In foster care with an employee Dixcey, Simone received the loving care, combined with the weekly baths and a change in food, proved to be just the medicine Simone needed. Ashes is a happy and healthy adult cat who is now a full fledge member of the Dunn household. Simone found her "forever" home when Dixcey and her husband adopted her recently.

Andy, a Piebald Dachshund, arrived at Fuzzy Friends in deplorable condition. He was born deaf and blind on his left side, but that was not his biggest hurdle. A local veterinarian had determined that he had contracted the parvovirus. He was three and a half months old and his owner had relinquished their rights to him because they could not afford the necessary treatment. The parvovirus had so weakened Andy's immune system that he had every intestinal parasite a dog could have. He only weighted three pounds: he was so weak he could hardly walk, and ate only a teaspoon of food at each feeding. The state of his health was so critical that he could not be left overnight without supervision. Andy was so fragile and emaciated that his bones almost protruded through his skin. He would cry out in excruciating pain each time he was moved or picked up. Andy's condition was deplorable and without an enormous amount of tender loving care, it would surly deteriorate. The function of the Angel Heart Fund at Fuzzy Friends Rescue is to provide medical care that is above and beyond the norm. It was because of this fund that we were able to accept Andy and begin to treat all of the maladies from which he was suffering. Andy's foster home became his "forever" home when Linda, who had provided the necessary round the clock care Andy so desperately needed, adopted him. Today, at 17 pounds, he is a happy, healthy, handsome and energetic young man who is living life to its fullest.

The dumpster was big, cold, very dark, and full of disgusting, foul smelling things. Hardly the place one would expect to find a precious, tiny, little being. This is exactly where MiMi was found, all 2.8 pounds of her. Luckily, a Baylor student found and rescued her. The student tried, in vain, to locate MiMi's family. Apparently whomever she belonged had cherished MiMi just about as much as they cherished their trash. Thank goodness the Baylor student cared about her future. She took MiMi to Fuzzy Friends Rescue. MiMi, a very loving long haired Chihuahua, was approximately 7 or 8 years old. In addition to being underweight she ad a large chunk of flesh missing from her mouth and 7 rotten teeth that had to be removed. After the rotten teeth were removed, and routine medical care was administered, MiMi began to feel better and gain weight. MiMi now in her new home sleeps in a warm, cozy bed with her mom and siblings and never, every has to worry about finding herself in a dumpster. The Angel Heart Fund again helps the helpless.

CeCe was surrendered to Fuzzy Friends Rescue March 12, 2003 by her owner. She was malnourished and under her normal weight by 20-30 lbs. CeCe had sarcoptic mange and to everyone's surprise was pregnant. Four days after arrival she gave birth to seven beautiful puppies. Unfortunately two did not survive, but the others were healthy, happy and growing. Today they have been adopted into loving homes. CeCe was able to receive excellent medical treatment because some very special people invested their financial resources in The Angel Heart Fund.

Gus was rescued by a concerned citizen on a cold November day, right before Thanksgiving. Every rib was sticking out and you could see his backbone. He was about 30 pounds under weight. Gus was infested with fleas and they were draining his very life blood. He was immediately taken to a vet and received all his vaccinations, a therapeutic bath and prescribed antibiotics for his skin conditions. After four months at FFR all his hair came back and no sores or fleas. Gus had also gained his weight back. A short time after a wonderful couple who lived in the country adopted Gus.
A special thanks to those who invested in The Angel Heart Fund saved another life. Gus got a second chance to love and be loved.

Pepe was brought to Fuzzy Friends by a citizen who found him on their porch drinking water out of a broken flower pot. He was literally "skin and bones", (weighing only 5 pounds) severely dehydrated, anemic, with a blood count of 18 (transfusions are given when it drops to 11), covered in fleas, had saroptic mange and Ehrlichia, which if left untreated, is fatal. We honestly did not think Pepe would make it. Within six weeks, Pepe doubled his body weight and was well on his way to a full recovery! At first we thought he was a poodle mix, but with good nutrition, veterinary care and lots of TLC, his "true colors" came out. He is a bichon.
